Pikilia

Pikilia (Ποικιλία)

One of the more popular dishes gives you a taste of everything. The pikilia is a plate of popular appetizers filled with: (Averback)

- Taramosalata: A popular dip made with fish roe, olive oil, lemons, onions and bread is usually eaten with pita bread (mygreekdish.com)

- Tzatziki: Another popular yogurt dip made with greek yogurt, cucumbers and lots of garlic. This sauce can be eaten with pitas, on gyros, with chicken or simply as a side with any meal (NatashasKitchen.com)

- Kopanisti: A dip originated in Mykonos, is a traditional spicy cheese dip that is served with pitas usually in pink or white (fondazioneslowfood)

- Dolmades: A vegetarian appetizer made from fresh vine leaves wrapped and stuffed with rice and fresh herbs (mygreekdish)

- Olives: Traditional black Kalamata olives served with some olive oil and topped off with some salt.




Octopus (χταπόδι)

A must try dish in Greece is the fresh octopus. The octopus that is cought daily is nice and fresh and marinated in a lemon and olive oil dressing served as an appetizer. For those who cannot bear looking at the tenticles while they eat, fried calamary is also a good option also served with lemon. For the freid calamari lovers, using tzatziki as a dipping sauce is highly recommended and ask for extra lemon. (bbcgoodfood)









Greek Salad

Traditional Greek Salad (ελληνική σαλάτα)

The traditional greek salad is composed of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, green pepers, fresh oregano and topped off with some traditional feta cheese and greek olive oil. It is served with every meal and is a nice and light side to every meal. Depending on the season, a traditional lettuce salad is also served in the winter but if visiting in the summer season, the traditional tomato salad with be served unless asked otherwise.

Gyros (γύρος)

Gyros

The most popular dish Greece is known for is the gyros meat which can be served in two different ways:
1. Hyros meat from the skew cut up andwrapped in a warm pita topped off in a garlic sauce filled with tomatoes, tzatziki, fries and onions. Fries can be asked to be served on the side.
2. The loose meat option is simply a plate of gyros meat from the skew served on a bed of rice with fries on the side. There is also a traditional greek salad with a side of tzatziki. (bbcgoodfood)




Pastichio

Pastitsio (παστίτσιο)

A baked pasta dish similar to lasagna but with a twist. A noodle pasta at the bottom in a tomato sauce, meat sauce in the middle and topped off with a creamy bechamel sauce and bread crumbs on top. This is a very traditional dish that is also served with a side of salad and is very filling.

Baklava

A sweet desert dish that you must try at least once on your visit. The baklava is a famous greek desert that is very sweet made from layers of phyllo filled with shopped wallnuts and topped off with a lemon syrup. They are served in small portions because they are very filling.

Pagotinia

Pagotinia (Παγωτίνια)

For those with a love for ice cream this is the dessert for you. These mini ice creams come in all different flavours including traditional chocolate and even pistachio. They come in boxes of 12. They are an amazing snack for the beach and are filled with a rich and creamy flavour. They can be picked up at any bakery store but they are often sold out come the end of the day. bougatsa

Bougatsa (μπουγάτσα)

The Greek bougatsa is a creamy pastry filled with custard in a sweet phyllo. The phyllo is baked in a manner that makes it extra crispy to balance out the creamy custard. It is sprinkled with icing sugar, cinamon and butter. Depending on the bakery, sometimes served with a side of fresh greek honey. (mygreekdish)
